What is this blog?

It is the working notebook of a company building a voice-first back office for 1-5 person trades shops. Every post answers one practical question about the phone, the admin, or the money — with arithmetic you can re-run yourself and no filler. No trend pieces, no thought leadership.

Every post belongs to one of three clusters, each with a hub page that goes deeper: starting your own shop lives at going independent, the phone-coverage money questions live at Rivet vs. an answering service, and the missed-call arithmetic lives in the missed-call cost calculator. Start with whichever question is currently costing you sleep.

Common questions

Who is this blog for?

Owners of 1-5 person trades shops — HVAC, plumbing, and electrical, with more trades expanding — who do their own admin from the truck. If you dispatch a ten-truck fleet with office staff, most of these posts will feel small to you, and that's by design.

Do I need Rivet for any of this advice to work?

No. The checklists, comparisons, and math are written to be useful on their own. Where Rivet fits, we say so in a clearly marked section — and Rivet itself is in early access, so we'd rather earn trust with useful posts than oversell.

How do you keep the numbers honest?

We don't publish invented market statistics or unnamed customer stories. When a post needs a number, it is either arithmetic you can re-run with your own figures — like the missed-call calculator — or an assumption stated in the open that you can adjust.
